In Chicagos Gold Coast district, Thompson Chicago is close to restaurants, nightlife and a block away from Oak Street known for its upmarket boutiques and lakefront beach. Here is the start of the long North Michigan Avenue, better known as the Magnificent Mile teeming with shops, restaurants and entertainment. Chicago has two main gay areas with bars, clubs, restaurants and shops to explore. Both are north of the hotel with Boystown about ten minutes drive and Andersonville fifteen minutes. Main tourist attractions include the John Hancock Center for its panoramic views, the Art Institute as the second largest art museum in the US and for fun the Navy Pier with its 150 foot high Ferris wheel.
