The Old Clare Hotel

Sydney’s upcoming neighborhood of Chippendale has a hip new hub in The Old Clare Hotel, a former brewery that now soars with style and great cuisine.

Local architects infused the property with unpretentious luxury that honors its industrial heritage incorporating exposed brick, bare concrete, and old timber paneling. Exceptionally tall windows ensure that the already-well-spaced rooms feel even more inviting, private, and warm.

The rooftop pool and bar in the middle of Sydney offers the perfect way to escape the clamor of the city by settling above the skyline. Whether you are after lunch or dinner, Automata’s frequently changing menus have got you covered.

A1 Canteen is a more casual affair and serves food both on the roof and in The Clare bar – striking the balance between a chilled Aussie pub and a hotel bar, it’s a place to relax, have a drink and have a chat.

The Old Clare Hotel, Kensington Street, Chippendale NSW, Australia

For some time, Chippendale has been flanked by action on all sides, leading to its inevitable renewal: The University of Sydney lays just to the west and the University of Technology just to the north, together ensuring a young crowd hungry for art and vin blanc. Indeed, Chippendale has a vibrant, pluralistic community of artists that are showcased throughout the neighborhood’s gallery scene (the area is home to one of the biggest showcases of contemporary Chinese art in the world). Chippendale also sports a couple of enticing green spaces; namely Victoria Park and Prince Alfred Park to the west and east, respectively.
