GAY AND LESBIAN HOTELS IN Jordan

Homosexuality in Jordan has been legal since 1951, however the traditional Islamic culture makes it difficult for gay people to lead an open and liberal lifestyle. Gay people living in Jordan live very discreet lives in very private spaces. Amman has a couple of small gay events and gay-friendly spaces, but these can be difficult to find. The city is becoming more metro-sexual and international in outlook making it easier to have gay bars and events, Books@Cafe is probably the most reliable venue to meet other gay people. In most of the cities the best places to meet local gay people will be at discreet cruising grounds, at men-only hot springs and hammams (traditional baths). There are no public gay pride celebrations or events, though slowly Jordan is liberalising as it does not have the Sharia Law. Jordan has a wealth of awe-inspiring landmarks to visit, especially those that date back thousands of years. The famous Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985 and made it on one of the New Seven Wonders of the World lists. Amman is home to an ancient Roman amphitheatre and the ancient city of Herash dates over 6,500 years. The natural wonders of the Jordan River, The Dead Sea, Wadi Rum and Mount Nebo can offer some splendid photo opportunities. Jordan is certainly a destination for the traditional traveller who is looking to explore history, culture and natural landscapes. To make the most of the country and avoid the hot summer months visit during Spring (March/ April) or Autumn (October/ November).
