Vietnam is a relatively hassle-free place for gay, lesbian and transgender travelers. Vietnam has more progressive government than most of its Asian neighbors.
In 2015, a Law on Marriage and Family was passed that officially removes a ban on same-sex marriages (though these partnerships have not yet been legally recognized). Public displays of affection, whether heterosexual or homosexual, are frowned upon. Gay venues still keep a low profile, as many Vietnamese choose to keep their sexuality from their families.
