GAY AND LESBIAN HOTELS IN Cyprus

Cyprus had to update its position on homosexuality in 1998 when it became a member of the European Union, legalising same-sex sexual activity, although same-sex relationships still go unrecognised. There is still a lot of public disfavor towards homosexuality in this traditional Orthodox country, where you may well come across homophobia. Life is tougher in Northern Cyprus, the Turkish part, where homosexuality is still illegal and punishable with up to three years imprisonment, this part of Cyprus is not yet part of the EU. The gay-scene is growing in Cyprus especially with the influx of European sun-seeking tourists visiting for summer vacations. The popular gay bar, Different, in Paphos and Secrets Freedom Club is often busy. Alaloum is the oldest gay venue in Cyprus and one to find as it hides on the back alley streets, here you will discover a very traditional drag gay scene. If you want to go anywhere to meet other gay people, especially during the day then head for the popular Cypriot nudist beaches. There are a few stretches of sand and pebble-coastline you can frequent with an excellent view including Sea Caves Beach in Coral Bay, Pissouri Beach, Dassoudi Beach and Governer’s Beach. They are popular with gay visitors throughout the summer and can get very busy. Cyprus has an ancient history you can explore through Pahpos harbor, Kolossi Castle and a number of Turkish baths. A popular tourist spot is Ayia Napa, a former fishing village, it has now become one of the most popular European summer resort destinations. Cyprus has some amazing landscapes, stunning golden stretches of beach and the warm Mediterranean sea. The best time to visit this Mediterranean island is between April and October.
